Caretaker

Live and Work in the Outback | Hands-On Role | Ideal for a Couple

(Long term role but open to a shorter-term arrangement dependant on the candidates.)

We’re looking for one full-time Bore Runner—and we’ve got a flexible opportunity for your partner too. Whether they’re keen to pitch in on the station or bring their own skills to the table, we’re open to shaping a role that suits.

Are you seeking a hands-on, purpose-driven role in a beautiful remote location? Hewitt Agribusiness is looking for a dedicated individual or couple to join us as Caretakers on one of our iconic cattle stations in the Northern Territory. Based just a 1 hour and 20minute drive from Alice Springs and multiple tourist destinations like Ruby Gap, Altunga-Larapinta trail and swimming holes.

This is an exciting opportunity to live and work in the heart of the Australian outback, taking pride in maintaining and caring for a property that’s part of Australia’s largest Organic beef supply chain.

As a Caretaker, you’ll be responsible for supporting the day-to-day running and general upkeep of the property. Whether its keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, maintaining equipment and infrastructure, or simply being the reliable, friendly presence on-station, your contribution is vital to the bigger picture.

This position is well-suited to a self-motivated, practical individual or couple with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and responsibly.

What can you expect day-to-day?

Key Duties:

  • General property maintenance, including yards, water infrastructure, fencing, and gardens.
  • Basic machinery and vehicle upkeep (e.g., checking oil/water, greasing, minor repairs).
  • Supporting pest and weed control activities as required.
  • Ensuring a clean, tidy, and safe work and living environment.
  • Following safe work procedures and using chemicals and machinery in line with training and labels.
  • Completing timesheets, records, and logging tasks in our Safe Ag System (our safety system).
  • Attending and contributing to weekly PEPP Talks (our team planning and safety discussions).
  • Ad hoc tasks as required.

About you:

  • Honest, reliable, and self-sufficient – you’re someone who takes initiative and gets things done.
  • Able to follow instructions, work safely, and handle physical work.
  • Comfortable living remotely and embracing the rhythm of station life.
  • Handy with tools and equipment – or eager to learn!
  • A natural troubleshooter who communicates effectively and confidently.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or a trades background preferred but not necessary.

Whether you’re a couple looking for your next adventure, or a practical, hands-on individual ready to make a meaningful contribution – we’d love to hear from you.
