Based at our Bylong Aggregation, this 25,000-acre hub in the stunning Bylong Valley is home to our elite bull breeding program – managing both stud and commercial seedstock herds of over 4,500 head. With more than 1,000 acres dedicated to cropping, hay, and irrigation to support the growth and development of our bulls and steers, this site is a key player in Hewitt’s high-performance operations.

About the Role

As Head Stockperson, you’ll take the reins across a diverse mix of responsibilities – from livestock breeding to cropping and irrigation. You’ll be hands-on in the day-to-day, while leading a team of 6 with confidence, purpose, and professionalism.

This is a role for a true all-rounder who thrives on responsibility, brings energy to a team, and has a strong commitment to safety, animal welfare, and continual improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading and coordinating daily operational tasks across livestock, cropping, irrigation, and general property maintenance

  • Mentoring, training, and motivating station staff to foster a high-performing and collaborative team culture

  • Ensuring the health and welfare of the herd through best-practice animal husbandry

  • Overseeing safe operation and upkeep of machinery, vehicles, fencing, and water systems

  • Maintaining accurate records across Sapien, Safe Ag Systems & SharePoint

  • Promoting a strong safety-first culture across all work practices

What You’ll Bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in a Head Stockperson or similar role

  • Deep understanding of cattle breeding operations, including AI, preg testing, drafting, weaning, and animal health

  • Solid experience in irrigation, cropping, and hay production

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset with attention to detail

  • Computer literacy and comfort with digital record-keeping

  • A positive attitude, high work ethic, and commitment to excellence

  • Willingness to adapt to seasonal priorities and a variety of daily tasks
