We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to help strengthen, secure, and modernise our core infrastructure across Australia and the United States. About the Role
Reporting to the IT Manager, you will be a key technical expert responsible for the stability, security, and performance of Hewitt’s server, network, cloud, and end user computing environments.
You’ll lead cybersecurity uplift initiatives, support infrastructure modernisation projects, guide junior team members and MSP partners, and ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and ready for future growth.
This is a hands-on role with significant influence across our global operations.
Key Responsibilities
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Implement cybersecurity and compliance frameworks, including Essential 8 maturity targets.
- Lead incident response processes and coordinate internal and external resources.
- Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and implement advanced security controls.
Systems Architecture & Administration
- Administer servers, storage, networks, M365/Entra ID, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications.
- Ensure high availability through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities.
- Develop automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell) to enhance security and efficiency.
Technical Projects
- Deliver infrastructure and security project components, including upgrades, migrations, and automation initiatives.
- Support the execution of the IT Systems & Infrastructure Roadmap.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements.
Advanced Support (Level 2/3)
- Provide escalated technical support across all Hewitt locations.
- Work with MSPs and vendors to resolve complex issues.
- Support remote site operations, ensuring equipment and connectivity remain reliable.
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain detailed technical documentation, system diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Support IT policy, process, and standards development.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Mentor IT Support Analysts and service delivery staff.
- Work closely with IT leadership and project teams.
- Communicate technical risks and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
- Participate in afterhours incident response when required.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is technically strong, collaborative, and committed to operational excellence.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and user support.
- Hands on expertise with Azure, M365, SharePoint, networking, and cloud technologies.
- Hands on expertise with on premise server hardware, SAN’s, hypervisors.
- Professional certifications in Azure, M365, SharePoint, or networking (advantageous).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability
- Experience working with MSPs and/or MSSPs (preferred).
